Hello Friends,
We hope this post finds you well-rested, healthy, and safe. We’ve been thinking of you…
We write to you all today, nearly a week after the results of the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election, to bring awareness to the fact that the impact of this election is felt in our bodies… deep in our psyches… and all of the emotions that arise are legitimate, worthy of being felt and explored, and have a place here at Eleventh House.
In conflict transformation, we learn that conflict ebbs and flows and is an opportunity for growth. Strategic peacemaking is not about “liking” or being in agreement with one another. Here at Eleventh House, strategic peacemaking is about digging deeper into our history, assessing the current context, the marketplace, and power structures. We locate our position in society so that we can psychologically emancipate ourselves from social forces that do not serve us. This way, we can identify the fundamental elements of who we are and make a conscious choice about which parts we want to keep and which we want to let go of. This increases our capacity to pursue our needs and interests compassionately, in a manner that is in alignment with our values, even though we recognize that may not always be possible.
We understand that for many, the election results are a symbol of violence that threaten the humanity of women, children, immigrants, non-Christians, sexual and gender minorities, non-romance language speaking populations, as well as, populations of pre-columbian indigenous cultures and those of African heritage throughout the Americas; even those that are anglicized and hispanicized. We understand that this affects cultural and social groups beyond the Western Hemisphere that are influenced by U.S. foreign policy as well. We also know that there are individuals among these groups that are in favor of the results of the election, and those that are apathetic. Either way, the message is clear: the truth of the election results have overpowered a great deal of falsehood. Now, the path forward calls on us to take responsibility for the areas in our life and work that we can improve upon, and strive to be more proactive and conscientious as we harness the complexity of the people we serve. Ultimately, to ensure the achievement of individual, household-level, and community development goals.
Please reach out if we can assist with anything.
All the Best,
YOUR Eleventh House
